Portrait

More from computer illustration class. This time we were suppose to do an “expressive” self-portrait, and we could use any programs we wanted to. I created mine in Painter and Photoshop (some of the original characters were also created in Illustrator and Maya). It was pretty fun, though I kind of wish the pastel painting over my photo would have turned out a little better. Or I kind of wish maybe I had left it as a photo, with everything else being drawn. Oh well. My professor did say that it reminded her of films where live people are combined with animation. (Think Bedknobs and Broomsticks, Mary Poppins, etc.) That made me pretty happy. Those are some of my fav films! Anyway, here’s the image to enjoy:

Parliament of Owls

Sunday, March 8th, 2009

Another round of textured critters. I colored them a little differently this time, in that I colored them all together and put a background behind them. What can I say? The parliament demanded a nice tree branch and a sunset sky. : )

Textured Critters

Thursday, March 5th, 2009

As a kind of an exercise/experiment, I decided to sit for approx 40 min. at one time and draw as many of the same type of animal as I could (& that would fit on my sketchbook page). *I plead the fifth on where it is I’m actually drawing these - for my fellow HU DMA students, you can probably take a wild guess : ) *

Anyway, then I scan the characters into the computer and add textures behind them to color them instead of the tradition solid colors. This has been really fun, & I think I’ve gotten some really great characters out of them. Here are a few of my personal favs. Check the “Sketches and Characters” section of my portfolio to see more!
